“Amcor Unveils Decarbonization Roadmap to Combat Climate Change: A Sustainable Packaging Solution”

Amcor, a global leader in responsible packaging solutions, has recently unveiled its Decarbonization Roadmap aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The roadmap is in line with the latest climate science, with targets set to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius. These targets have been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The Decarbonization Roadmap focuses on “4 + 1” key areas:

1. Product redesign: Amcor plans to innovate its product designs to lower their carbon footprint.
2. Recycled content: The company aims to increase the use of recycled materials in its packaging solutions.
3. Renewable electricity: Transitioning to renewable sources to power its operations.
4. Supply chain collaboration: Partnering with suppliers to ensure they meet high sustainability standards and align with Amcor’s decarbonization targets.

The additional “+1” area will concentrate on enhancing operational efficiency through actions such as improving water and waste management, boosting energy efficiency, and upgrading equipment.

Peter Konieczny, Amcor’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Sustainability is a constant motivation for everyone at Amcor – we want the environment to be better off because of our leadership and products.”

In fiscal year 2023, 22 Amcor sites achieved 100% renewable electricity use, with a 10.2% reduction in absolute GHG emissions compared to the previous year. The company also saw a 244% increase in renewable electricity use compared to the previous fiscal year.
