Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung has revealed why the highly anticipated blockbuster does not address climate change or global warming in the film. In an interview with CNN, Chung stated, “I just wanted to make sure that with the movie, we don’t ever feel like it is putting forward any message. I just don’t feel like films are meant to be message-oriented, I think what we are doing is showing the reality of what’s happening on the ground … we don’t shy away from saying that things are changing.”
The plot of the film revolves around Daisy’s character, Kate Cooper, who is traumatized by a tornado and is drawn back into storm chasing when her friend Javi, played by Anthony Ramos, introduces her to a new storm mapping system. They clash with Tyler Owens, portrayed by Powell, a storm chaser who risks his life for social media content.
Despite the absence of a direct environmental message in the film, Universal Pictures has partnered with the American Red Cross to aid those affected by disasters, as mentioned in a note at the end of the trailer. The star-studded cast also includes Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, and Paul Scheer.
