Panelists on Climate Change Encourage Chamber Members to Research Sustainability Practices for Our Communities

“Taking Action for a Sustainable Future: Insights from the St. James-Assiniboia Climate Change Panel Luncheon”

The recent Climate Change and Sustainability Practices Panel Luncheon held by the Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce at the Assiniboine Park Pavilion brought together three inspiring panelists who shared their insights on championing sustainability in daily operations. Brent Poole from BGP Environmental emphasized the importance of cleaning water, using it responsibly, and returning it to its source in a better condition. He highlighted global concerns about water safety and the need for action on both a global and local level.

Archie Pronger from Assiniboine Park Conservancy discussed the park’s sustainability initiatives, including transitioning to electric-powered lawn care equipment and using recycled materials in various aspects of park operations. The park’s Kitchen Garden also plays a role in producing food for on-site restaurants and feeding park animals.

Josh Friesen from Dueck Builders shared his passion for sustainability in construction and educating clients on eco-friendly building options. He highlighted energy incentives in Winnipeg that promote home efficiency and emphasized the importance of gradual but meaningful changes for lasting environmental impact.

The panelists collectively emphasized the importance of every action, no matter how small, in making a positive impact on the environment. They encouraged attendees to start somewhere and make small changes that can lead to larger, more significant impacts over time. By starting small, doing research, and developing sustainable habits, individuals can contribute to a more environmentally friendly future.

The panel discussion also highlighted Energy Manitoba’s resources and incentives for sustainable practices, further emphasizing the importance of community-driven efforts for positive change. Overall, the luncheon served as a reminder of the collective responsibility we all have in taking action to protect the environment for future generations.
