“Empowering Change: Deloitte’s Sustainability Journey Towards a Low-Carbon Economy”

Deloitte, a global professional services firm, is making significant strides in advancing its environmental sustainability ambition through its WorldClimate initiative. This initiative focuses on taking actions internally and inspiring others to do the same in order to address the climate crisis. Deloitte has set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals for 2030 that have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative as being aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the company has committed to setting long-term emissions reduction targets using the SBTi’s Net Zero Standard.

One of the key ways Deloitte is advancing its sustainability goals is by embedding sustainability into its processes and practices, including procurement. The company has made significant progress in advancing renewable electricity, electric vehicle adoption, and energy efficiency/productivity initiatives. In FY2023, 94% of the energy purchased by Deloitte was renewable energy. Deloitte North and South Europe has electrified 42% of its fleet with electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, while Deloitte Africa’s Cape Town office received recognition for its sustainable design practices.

In addition to addressing climate change, Deloitte is also focusing on its impact on nature and biodiversity. The company is developing a global nature and biodiversity strategy to mitigate impacts throughout its value chain and support nature-positive solutions. Deloitte is also working with Indigenous communities in Australia and Canada to advance nature-based climate solutions and incorporate traditional ecological knowledge into its practices.
