Yale Forum Commemorates a Decade of the Center on Climate Change and Health

“Yale Forum Celebrates Ten Years of Climate Change and Health Initiatives: A Faculty Collaboration”

The Yale Forum on Climate Change and Health, hosted by the Yale Planetary Solutions and Yale Center on Climate Change and Health (YCCCH), brought together over 50 faculty members from various disciplines on Feb. 28 at the Sterling Memorial Library Lecture Hall. The forum, organized by YCCCH Executive Director Jen Wang, celebrated the center’s 10-year anniversary and highlighted recent achievements in climate and health research.

The event aimed to foster collaboration among Yale faculty members, showcase the center’s contributions to climate change and health research, and invite the Yale community to explore potential collaborations. According to Wang, this was the first time faculty members had convened for such a forum, reflecting the growing interest and importance of addressing the health impacts of climate change.

Faculty members from schools such as Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Environment, Architecture, and Arts and Sciences, as well as the Provost’s Office, attended the forum. The collaboration between Yale’s medical and climate change research communities has been on the rise, with initiatives like the Climate Change and Health Concentration for Masters of Public Health and the online Climate Change and Health Certificate Program attracting students and working professionals from around the world.

YCCCH also has a partnership with the Connecticut Department for Public Health, funded by the CDC, to work on local heat and air quality preparedness and response plans. This collaborative effort reflects the center’s commitment to addressing the health impacts of climate change through innovative research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Overall, the Yale Forum on Climate Change and Health highlighted the center’s achievements over the past decade and set the stage for future initiatives to tackle the complex challenges at the intersection of climate change and public health. Faculty members expressed enthusiasm for breaking down silos and developing cutting-edge research to address the urgent issues posed by climate change.
