“Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet and UNOPS Join Forces to Tackle Environmental Challenges”

Delhi, India – The Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet (GASP) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) have officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 10, 2024. This landmark agreement signifies a crucial step towards addressing some of the most pressing environmental and social challenges on a global scale through collaborative and transformative initiatives.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Satya S. Tripathi, Secretary-General of GASP, and Mr. Sanjay Mathur, Director of UNOPS Asia Pacific Region. It establishes a framework for both organizations to bolster global community resilience and well-being, ensuring sustainable development initiatives for future generations.

The primary goal of this partnership is to enhance the quality of life within communities while safeguarding resources for the benefit of future populations. It aims to foster collaboration between the scientific community and policymakers, as well as strengthen ties between the Global North and South.

To achieve these objectives, GASP and UNOPS will work together to identify potential institutional counterparts and private sector entities for collaboration in areas such as climate action, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development. They will facilitate meaningful exchanges and dialogues between relevant government bodies and institutions involved in sustainable agriculture, critical minerals sustainability, food systems transformation, energy efficiency, and energy access, among other critical issues.

Moreover, the partnership will support high-quality scientific research focusing on sustainable infrastructure, climate adaptation, and resilient ecosystems. It also seeks to engage indigenous peoples and vulnerable communities, integrating local knowledge into investment opportunities and policy innovations.

Furthermore, the collaboration aims to bridge the gap between government, private sector, and communities to achieve significant social impact on a large scale. Mr. Satya S. Tripathi, Secretary-General of GASP, emphasized the commitment to sustainable development and transformative environmental impact through this partnership with UNOPS.

Mr. Sanjay Mathur, Director of UNOPS Asia Pacific Region, highlighted the organization’s dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing the creation of tangible, positive impacts where they are most needed. He expressed optimism about the partnership with GASP, stating that it will empower both organizations to transform lives in vulnerable communities by addressing urgent climate change challenges and promoting sustainable development.

The cornerstone of this partnership lies in its innovative approach to leveraging private finance for public good, scaling up investments to enhance the ‘GDP of the Poor.’ Through these collaborative efforts, GASP and UNOPS aim to establish virtuous partnerships and support international engagements to capitalize on transformative opportunities for environmental and social impact.

In conclusion, the MoU between GASP and UNOPS represents a significant step towards fostering sustainability, resilience, and equity on a global scale. The partnership holds the promise of creating a more resilient and equitable world by leveraging collective expertise and resources to address pressing environmental and social challenges.
